Schema.org structured data
The vendr-schema embed writes JSON-LD into the page head so search engines can read the store’s search box, breadcrumbs, collections, FAQs, and key pages. It fills the gaps around the schema the theme already outputs.
Adds to the theme, does not replace it
Organization, Product, and Article are off by default because the theme already outputs them. Turn one on only if the theme’s version is missing; two copies of the same type can confuse search engines.
Where to enable it
Online Store → Themes → Customize → Theme settings → App embeds → vendr-schema. No theme mount points are needed; the embed renders in the document head.
What it outputs
On by default:
- WebSite with a SearchAction — every page. Points the search box at the store’s search results.
- BreadcrumbList — the path from the home page to the current page.
- CollectionPage with an ItemList — collection pages. Lists the first 12 products; the count is a setting.
- FAQPage — the page with the handle
faq. The handle is a setting. - WebPage — other pages. The page with the handle
our-storyis an AboutPage, andcontactis a ContactPage.
Off by default:
- Organization, Product, and Article — the theme already outputs these.
FAQ data
Questions come from the app’s FAQ item metaobject, not from the page body.
- Content → Metaobjects → FAQ item. Add one entry per question, with a question and an answer.
- Content → Pages → the FAQ page. In Metafields, link the entries to
app.faqin the order they should appear.
If the FAQ page has no linked entries, it falls back to WebPage.
Deploy
Deploy once per store, using that store’s app config.
shopify app deploy --config vendr-app-embeds-<store> This release adds the write_online_store_pages scope. After deploy, someone in each store has to reopen the app in Shopify Admin and approve the new scope.
Test it
- Paste a live page URL into the Google Rich Results Test. Check the home page, a collection, the FAQ page, and a product.
- Run the same URLs through the Schema.org validator to see every type, including ones Google does not show as rich results.
- Look for duplicates. One Product per product page and one Organization per site is the goal; if both the theme and the embed output one, turn the embed’s off.
